"North American films dominate this year's Festival de Cannes lineup announced Tuesday," write Charles Masters and Stuart Kemp in the
Hollywood Reporter, "with 10 films from the United States, Canada and Mexico set to unspool, including seven in Competition."
According to Cannes' artistic delegate Thierry Fremaux, the Festival "will present 53 films from different 28 countries. In total, there will be 50 world premieres, bearing witness to the Festival de Cannes' desire to show previously unseen work. There are 20 feature films in competition from 13 different countries. The Selection is also presenting 11 first films, one of which is in competition."
The complete lineup of all sections can be found on the
fest's Web site.

There are a huge amount of films to see this year. Besides all competition films, there's gonna be a wide selection of outstanding shorts which will be viewed at this years Short Film Corner. This is a new modern aspect in Cannes traditional selection. Must say that most of the shorts presented last year at the SFC, many broke through to wide ditribution in many festivals, including Oscar nominees like "Liitle Terrorist".
Films presented at SFC are less classified, therefore many agents have their own opinion on those films, giving them a wider attraction.
We will see at most 500 films. Many are buzzing on
BODY PARTS by Ron Bay, OHAYO by Shinya Okada, ADRIFT by Samantha Harrie, WHITE by Sebastian Mantilla, AMAL by Richie Mehta, JORNEY TO MANGOCHI by Roberto Bentivegna and Chris de la Torre, etc.
Canada's Film Office will support 10 shortfilms selected from the SFC, which will be streamed online during the festival. This will be the most prestigious online event ever on the net.

I agree... The short film corner presents young filmmakers with a wonderful opportunity. I am curious, how did you hear about Journey to Mangochi? I saw it last year in London and was captivated. It's a beautiful film. In cases like these I always wonder why the programmers don't extend the Short Film limit to 30 minutes instead of 15.
