New Order rose from the ashes of
Joy Division, completing the journey of marrying goth post-punk to disco that the ill-fated
Ian Curtis started. The 80s saw them go from indie darlings to unlikely pop stars, with a series of arty video-clips that pushed the medium further than anyone else at the time. But if New Order's history as video-artists has been well documented on rather comprehensive DVD collections, the albums proper went shamefully neglected. Enter
Rhino Records to correct this egregious error, re-releasing the band's first five albums in remastered,
double CD editions crammed with extras. It's the perfect reward to long-time fans, and a great starting point for newbies who want to explore New Order's rich, varied catalogue.
