ALWAYS CRASHING IN THE SAME CAR

New York filmmaker Patrick Daughters is one of my favorite music video directors, and his new clip for Depeche Mode's "Wrong" has the queasy logic and panick-y vibe of a waking dream. See it below.

Wow - so the video has been pulled by EMI for copyright claims. This means one of two things:

1) The video was done illegally which, judging by your note, doesn't seem correct.

2) This company is so colossally stupid about new media that they think it is a BAD thing if lots and lots of people watch their music video on youtube. Isn't the whole point of a music video for lots of people to watch it? Isn't it a piece of promotion?

Apparently one of the big studios recently did the same thing when a new trailer of a film (possibly watchmen) showed up on youtube. WTF? Isn't that a good thing?

Wow, that was quick. I linked to it after seeing it posted this morning on Pitchfork. Perhaps it was a pre-release version? It's not mentioned on the band's official site (http://www.depeche-mode.com/home/), so that's probably the case.

I will admit that I was hoping to see a better quality version of the video since the night photography is pretty beautiful.

Or maybe it was all intentional. You know?

Put it up for a little while. Get some attention. Then quickly pull it. Now people start talking and anticipation builds.
