Back in NYC

Reflecting while recovering from jet-lag - it was quite the trip. It was extremely full and Sundance took wonderful care of us filmmakers. Now sitting in one place to review the collection of business cards I gathered and process some of what went on I realized what an unusual event it was for filmmakers and social entrepreneurs to come together that way and share. Surely, the dedication of the social entrepreneurs was matched by the passion of the filmmakers and they both brought out the best in each other. How nice is that?

Listening to people who dedicate their lives to a cause and have carved in-roads in new directions to places most of us have never heard of gives one a sense of awe, that you are privileged to have this time and experience.

Toronto Business School Manager Robert Martin quoted President Obama at the Forum, “That we reject as false the choice between safety and our ideals but offer a new approach. Great leaders refuse to choose." This summed up the determination by many that I will take with me as my experience.

Back in the edit room this week I can see how the interest in Muhammad Yunus and his work can reach deeper into our social consciousness and make a change and I’m calling up that determination I saw in such abundance at the Forum to push us on.
