Barakuhan
Official blog of Barako-the-movie. The story unfolds on the eve of the American occupation of Batangas in January 1900. It then moves on to recall the childhood of the publisista (publicist) in the 80s, who two decades later, will form a kapihan oddly referred to as the “barakuhan” that will play a pivotal role in the resolution of the town's six-week electric crisis and in the events leading to the 2004 elections. Joining the publicist in a bid to empower the timid townsfolk by getting them to join the barakuhan are Arman, Junior and Engineer who are among the town's oppositionists; Golot who sympathizes with the left being Ka Roger’s friend; Maestro and Berto who work for the left being Ka Roger’s friend; Maestro and Berto who work for the government as teachers; Igme the musician, Cris who is a church help, and finally, Mando—who will prove to be more than a simple farming folk. Over barako coffee, they meet every Friday night to discuss the town’s many woes, and publish a free circular that people can so conveniently pass around. But what’s even more important than the barakuhan itself are the lives of ordinary people depicted in the story, like Ka Idro who claims to be a hundred year old and yet has to work for his meals;Dolores who has been raped and abandoned by her family; Angie who at a tender age will learn to trade sex for food; and the marginalized Bikolanos who are either hired as farm workers or flying voters.

The Bread, My Sweet
In Italian, a good man is “a piece of bread”— plain, simple, and always welcome. Dom Pyzola is a second generation Italian-American corporate raider who has a post-graduate degree, a hot car, and an inkling that he’s not a nice guy. And he’s living parallel lives! In the corporate world he is the designated asshole; in the Biscotti Company which he owns, he is a piece of bread: he takes care of his older mentally handicapped brother, and keeps a day job waiting for his brother, Eddie, an actor. He is a surrogate son to Bella, an Italian immigrant who lives above the bakery and who has been saving, dollar by dollar, for her daughter’s American wedding since the day she gave birth. Set in the Italian section of Pittsburgh’s Strip District, "The Bread, My Sweet" is a love story about what happens when Dominic’s worlds collide. When he, alone, discovers that Bella has six months to live, he quits his corporate job, finds Lucca (Bella’s daughter), and tries to convince her to marry him and to stay married only for as long as her mother lives. "The Bread, My Sweet" is about love of family and culture — it’s about sacrifice. It’s a journey to a place where work is hard, wine is made in the basement, the future is stored dollar by dollar in coffee cans, and where people may believe that doing the outrageous thing is better than doing nothing at all. Starring Scott Baio ("Happy Days," "Charles in Charge"), Kristin Minter ("ER"), and Rosemary Prinz, John Seitz, Shuler Hensley & Billy Mott.

Broken: A Tale by Alex Ferrari
A gun blast, a flash of light, and a young woman awakens to the comfort of her own bed. Bonnie Clayton has it all, a great relationship, a challenging career, and the burden of a dream that grows more vivid and disturbing with each passing night. But when Bonnie is abducted by a sadistic stranger and his colorful entourage, she discovers that the key to her survival lies within the familiar realms of her recurring dream. In their desire to create an intelligent action packed thriller, Writer/Director Alex Ferrari and Writer/Producer Jorge Flores Rodriguez combined their technical and creative skills to develop their breakthrough project B R O K E N. Eager to prove that independent no-budget filmmaking could reap more than the standard "talking head" short film, the team set out to create a movie that not only had depth of story, but would satisfy the senses with its action and visual effects. The goal of creating a 15-minute short possessing enough production value that it could seamlessly replace 15-minutes within a studio film, seemed insurmountable. Yet, the result is a tale wrapped in over 100 visual effects and told in such a bold, fresh form, that its ability to capture the audience has propelled the project into feature film development.

Bye Bye Havana
For all Havana's crumbling structures and piles of rubble, its disintegrating roads and toxin-belching jalopies, its plethora of armed policemen and sun-bleached billboards espousing their pat, revolutionary slogans, it attracts over a million pink-skinned, camera-toting, snack-munching mojito-swilling tourists each year.

Cuba stands pummeled by an unworkable socialism and a voracious consumer appetite. What began more than forty six years ago seems spent, "patriotism or death" are simply not enough. Cubans want other choices, other points of view, and they can't wait any longer. But defeating the autocracy also means Cubans will need to relinquish much of their collective conscience in order to chase individual profit and personal freedom.
"Bye Bye Havana" is 90 miles from being political. This fast-paced stream of conscience documentary presents a unique flavor of irony, carried by an eclectic soundtrack featuring Latin Grammy Nominee X Alfonso, hip hop by Free Hole Negro, pianist Roberto Carcasses and jazz poet Telmary.
