FUND, CREATE, DISTRIBUTE & SUSTAIN

I recently received copies of Chris Anderson's "Free: the Future of A Radical Price" and Douglas Rushkoff's "Life, Inc." While I'm still reading both, I'm struck by the relationship they have to the work that we're currently doing. In a little less then three weeks, DIY DAYS will kick off in Philadelphia on Saturday, August 1st with a day of talks, panels, roundtables, case studies and workshops. All told there will be over 30 speakers sharing their knowledge and hopefully within the process unlocking some ways that storytellers can fund, create, distribute and sustain.

Another obvious connection to the literary work mentioned above is that the conference is totally FREE. But beyond the simple connections lies a more interesting parallel. DIY DAYS is based on the concept of open creativity where amateurs and professionals work side by side to create, share and discover stories. To this point we’re thrilled that Douglas Rushkoff will kick off DIY DAYS Philadelphia with a keynote on this very subject.

The End of Story
How capitalism killed narrative, and how to grow new ones
The myth of infinite market expansion was supported, at least in part, by a story structure dependent on crisis, climax, and relief. Just as we are now demanding bankers give up their absolute control of our monetary system, must we as storytellers give up control of our narratives? And how can we make a living telling stories in a world where everyone now has a story to tell, and a means of telling it?

For a more info on the event visit www.diydays.com to register visit http://diydaysphilly.eventbrite.com space is limited. For those coming from the NYC area the Bolt bus and NJ Transit offer inexpensive ways to travel to Philadelphia.

We're also currently looking for volunteers to help on the day. If you're interested please let us know work [@] workbookproject dot com
