The Independent Feature Project is offering a membership special offering. In addition to receiving all the usual IFP’s member benefits — and a subscription to Filmmaker, those who join by May 31 will receive the IFP’s 100-page Industry Directory, complete with contact info and bios of 300 different production and distribution companies, and also five hours of audio material, panel discussions on the following topics:

Working With First-Time Filmmakers: Michelle Satter (Sundance) and Holly Becker (IFC)

What Distributors Look For: Tom Quinn (Magnolia) and John Hodges (Focus Features)

Building a Career: Dylan Leiner (Sony Pictures Classics) and Mike Lubin (Paradigm)

Dialogue with commissioning editor Nick Fraser (BBC)

Financing Film Around the World: Kevin Iwashina (CAA) and Andre Rouleau (REMSTAR)

To top it off, there’s a 20% discount being offered as well, so a membership costs $80 if you join using the promo code FQSIX by the end of the month.

Is the 20% discount just for New York membership? I live near Detroit and make it to Chicago occasionally, but obviously I wouldn’t be able to take advantage of a lot of the benefits even with a Chicago membership, but it would obviously make more sense than a NY membership.

By the way, I forgot to thank you and IFP for posting the podcast of the distribution panel last month. That was interesting to hear.

    Hi Josh,

Thanks for the good words about the podcast — glad it was useful (and that the whole money aspect thing wasn’t too depressing).

I think this offer is for New York only, unfortunately.

    Best,

    Scott

Ha, I didn’t say the money aspect wasn’t depressing! I don’t think anyone goes into film, painting, writing, or any kind of art for money. We know the odds are stacked against us. But the need for creative fulfillment drives us forward anyway.

That’s not to say I wouldn’t like to make money. Of course I would; but that’s not what drives me.

the IFP web site says memberships in chicago pheonix and minnesota are $85 and seattle $75 — about the same as discounted NY price.
