While checking out the Lovely Machine website because I’m doing a panel with filmmaker Gregory Bayne today at The Conversation I came across his blog, which has some very tastefully curated links. To wit: the opening credit sequence of Gaspar Noe’s Enter the Void. This has been floating around the web but it’s the first time I caught up with it online. These credits are pretty amazing — check them out.

I have a feeling these were created specifically to try and induce epileptic seizures.

    Thought they are beautiful.

You could be right. I remember Gaspar playing around, I believe, with ultra-low frequencies designed to have a bodily effect in “Irreversible.”

If I remember correctly, these are only half of the credits – they play out once through prior to is in an even more rapid-fire and frenzied fashion. They’ve elicited applause at both screenings I’ve been at, at Sundance and SXSW….

WOW. This is dominant. I find myself remembering way more of the names that I do with a normal (read: boring) title sequence.

I feel a little bad for viewers watching this online before they experience it in the theater. So big and shocking.

This is a truncated version, and Lowery is right–they’re unbelievable on a large screen. Fantastic work.
