Errol Morris's "Tabloid" Movie Poster (2010)

I admit a certain obsession with cell phone Scrabble, the band Beach House, and of course, Errol Morris. While the first two are relatively recent acquisitions, that last one has been around for a while (since Cannes 2003 to be exact, and an interview on his film The Fog of War).

Morris’ goofy sense of humor remains as addictive as his philosophical and cinematic wanderings. With his latest documentary, Tabloid, my obsession with Morris and his obsessions—in this case, an obsessive beauty queen and the reporters obsessed with her—has reached new heights.

While you’re waiting with bated breath for Tabloid to be picked up by a distributor and released at a theater near you, check out this killer poster for the film, pictured here. It uses an archival photo of the film’s leading lady, Joyce McKinney, that fits so perfectly in this context that it’s downright uncanny.

Here’s another Morris artifact from an earlier venture: Reid Rosefelt, publicist extraordinaire, gave me this promotional keychain that Mr. Death used to promote his business offering “Execution Equipment and Support.” Additional keychains like this were then produced to help publicize the film, but the one pictured below is an original, made by the infamous executioner himself. Clearly, obsession-worthy.

Promotional Electric Chair Keychain (front and back views): "Fred A. Leuchter Associates, Inc. Execution Equipment and Support"

Also, another goody: a new conversation in four parts that Morris and his old pal Werner Herzog held here at the Toronto Film Festival:

Errol Morris & Werner Herzog, Toronto 2010 Part I

Errol Morris & Werner Herzog, Toronto 2010 Part II

Errol Morris & Werner Herzog, Toronto 2010 Part III

Errol Morris & Werner Herzog, Toronto 2010 Part IV

If you immediately feel a strong compulsion to watch all four of these videos at once, and then maybe watch them again, and then maybe start a little research project on some aspect of the conversation raised by Morris and Herzog, you’re not alone. “We’re all obsessive,” Tabloid producers Julie Bilson Ahlberg and Mark Lipson assured me. “You’re one of us.”

Errol Morris’ trashy film TABLOID slanders Joyce McKInney and very defamatory! It does not reveal the true footage and his snake- in- the -grass producer MARK LIPSON, who ransacked her luggage to steal pictures of her and then invaded her privacy by using them for this sick perverted film after pretending to be from Showtime network “doing a series on people whose, lives were destroyed by tabloids”. Another Morris-ite AJAE CLEARWAY played the big sister to win her trust, promised to clear her name and did not. Producer LIPSON producer harassed her to death. And he also assaulted her after trespassing on her property uninvited. He hounded the poor woman for months and was even responsible for the death of her service dog saying if she “would sign his contract” to get him out of the burglary, he and Morris would get a lawyer to save her dog from the pound. He didn’t show up and her beloved service dog Jazz Puppy was brutally tortured and savagely killed!!! (She is handicapped and hand-disabled, and partially blind and desparately needed the dog. But all Morris and LIPSN thought about was the almighty dollar and the cash they could make off a Joyce McKinney story for their sicko Mockumentary–which they planned to enter in this year’s Oscars, Morris is a pervert to resurrect these sick stories which once destroyed her life just to make money for himself and Lipson. And yes, he is being SUED for millions of dollars. The police are also considering CRIMINAL CHARGES against them for stealing her pictures, memorabilia, and two FILM TREATMENTS she had written herself. So DON’T give these scum publicity. They are as low as it goes… However, Miss McKinney is writing a book and a screenplay with the TRUE STORY on her life which is up for grabs by interested studios. If you want to know more about this and what REALY happened in England in 1977 when she was the victim of a PRESS HOAX enacted on a worldwide scale by Mormon cultists [that she "kidnapped and rapped " a 300 pound Mormon who, in reality was her fiance who had vanished and was in the grips of Mormon brainwashing and mind control.] Since sex oriented Morris certainly doesn’t tell her story, and edits and alters her interview by leaving out most of the true facts –as is evidenced by sloppy jump cuts, and non existent investigative techniques. He could have had a good movie, but instead chose tabloid trash and soft core pornography which created terrible psychological harm for its victim Miss McKinney. What a Morris and Lipson are! They deserve the twenty million dollar lawsuit they are going to get! ) If you want the true facts or more information on her story for yourself or your magazine, you may call her manager’s answering service and leave a message at 718-406-1089. Thank you for opening up to The Truth.
