SCORSESE’S “HUGO,” MASHED AND REMIXED

This video, apparently shot by an audience member watching Martin Scorsese’s Hugo at the Regal Union Square 14, is simply jaw dropping. For the last 20 minutes of the film, technological gremlins and an absent projectionist conspired to give the movie magic of Scorsese and Melies a 21st century twist. And this is after the film broke twice, making the entire run time three-and-a-half hours. Indeed, this is a viewing experience you won’t get at home. (For more, Gothamist has the story.)

I love that they are laughing instead of being angry. That’s so awesome! I mean they better have gotten like tons of free tickets but go them for still enjoying a night at the movies.

Nothing like a pre-show starting over a film since its running a little longer than it should be. I’m surprised this went on longer. The theatre I work at we would have be scolded in 30 seconds. It’s nice to see everybody laughing instead.

This happens more frequently than theater owners are willing to admit. And particularly in New York, where tickets are a minimum of $14 ($17 for 3D), this kind of blatant disregard for the experience by theater owners is hastening the demise of the theatrical experience. As if it didn’t need any more help.
